Job Title: Administrative Assessment Technician

Salary: $52,131 to $61,218 (Salary Grade 3)

Hours: 40/week (Monday - Friday, 8:30 am 4:30 pm)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Work entails the performance of a variety of clerical tasks and administrative duties in support of the Assessor’s staff. The position involves regular interaction with the General Public. Work is assigned by The Assessor, Lead Assessment Technician, and the Assistant Assessors. The position requires a good general knowledge encompassing a restricted field and the use of judgment in a wide range of procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Composes routine correspondence from oral instructions or written notes.
  • Receives and screens visitors and phone calls providing information where possible.
  • Data entry and maintenance on the Town’s Quality Data Service and Vision assessment software (with training)
  • Uses Microsoft Office software products
  • Processes incoming and outgoing mail
  • Review and processes property tax benefit claims including deciding tax benefit and exemptions
  • Reviews requests for motor vehicle adjustments, determines and processes the adjustment
  • Processes property transfer data
  • Works with the Departments Lead Tech in coordinating and controlling data flow to and from all real estate, motor vehicle, and personal property assessment databases
  • Verifies data accuracy for real estate, motor vehicle, and personal property assessment databases
  • Performs routine office tasks such as copying, filing and answering telephones.
  • Works with some confidential data which, if disclosed, might have adverse internal or external effect.
  • Perform other related duties as requested

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, patience and tact
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Ability to express oneself succinctly and professionally, bot h orally and in writing
  • Ability to perform in a courteous and professional manner at all times

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of experience in clerical duties and customer service
  • AAT preferred
  • Knowledge of the administration of Connecticut State property assessment laws.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Knowledge of Quality Data Service and Appraisal Vision (departmental software).
