Position Summary
The Town of Oxford is seeking a qualified and motivated Tax Assessor to manage all aspects of property assessment, including real estate, personal property, and motor vehicles. This position is responsible for compiling the annual Grand List and ensuring compliance with Connecticut General Statutes. The role involves leadership of the Assessor’s Office, close collaboration with the public and municipal departments, and professional oversight of assessment practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and administer town-wide assessments of all taxable and exempt property.
- Compile and certify the annual Grand List in accordance with state laws.
- Maintain effective communication with the public, town departments, and boards.
- Supervise staff and oversee daily operations of the Assessor’s Office.
- Prepare and manage the Assessor’s Office budget.
- Submit all required reports to the State of Connecticut.
- Maintain accurate property records using CAMA systems and other tools.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable statutes, ordinances, and regulations.
Qualifications
Certification Required: CCMA II (Certified Connecticut Municipal Assessor II) or CCMA I with the requirement to obtain CCMA II within two years of hire.
Education: Associate’s degree with coursework in property appraisal or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience: Substantial knowledge and experience in property valuation and assessment practices.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Connecticut property tax laws and statutes
- Proficiency with CAMA systems and state reporting requirements
- Effective leadership, supervision, and communication skills
Other: Valid Connecticut driver’s license required.
