Job Title: Assessment Technician I

Salary: $69,748 - $76,910

Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Position Definition: Performs responsible technical and clerical work involving the valuation of Personal Property, Motor Vehicles, Real Estate, and organizes and performs technical data entry and retrieval work related to the collection, analysis and processing of information in an automated record-keeping system to assist in the establishment of the City Grand List and related taxable property information.

General Duties: Receives oral instructions from supervisor. Organizes work according to standard office procedures. Established priorities within work assignment. Prepares assessment data from source documents for entry into automated system. Retrieves information from system to assist property owners and to compile information for functional reports as required. Prepares certificates of correction for changes in abstracts.

Assists and provides general information to members of the public in the valuation and proration of motor vehicles for taxation. Reports work accomplished to supervisor.

Additional Duties: Performs typing, filing and related tasks in the updating and maintenance of files and records external to the automated system. Operates office equipment such as calculators, photocopying machines.

Relieves other office staff as need requires. Performs related tasks as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to analyze and solve practical data entry problems.
  • Ability to acquire a working knowledge of laws, regulations and procedures pertaining to the Assessor’s Office functions and practices
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.
  • Ability to deal cooperatively with others.
Minimum Qualifications
High school Diploma/GEDANDFour years of increasingly responsible experience in general office work, including experience in working with personal property, motor vehicle, and real estate land records.

Special Licenses/Certifications AND/OR Supplemental Information

License or Certificate: Not applicable, but CCMA I preferred.

Grade: NMEA 13
