Summary of Position
Clerical and administrative position in the Assessor’s office, plan and organize work according to standard office procedures, perform typing, filing, data entry for valuation of real and personal property, motor vehicle adjustments, and related clerical tasks in the updating and maintenance of all assessment records including street card files, increase and penalty notices, etc. Provide technical and administrative assistance to the Assessor, including various spreadsheets, mass mailings and reports.
Minimum Training and Experience:
The skills and knowledge required for this position would generally be acquired with a high school education with course work in business, English, and arithmetic and two years of general office experience. This position is heavily customer service oriented, directly interfacing with public at the counter, on phone and via email. Experience working with confidential files and records. This position has the opportunity to attend UConn Assessment school to test for CCMA 1 certification. Experience in an Assessor’s Office and knowledge of Connecticut assessment law highly desired.
Duties
- Under direction performs a variety of accounting tasks, including maintenance of accounts and preparation of reports.
- Performs accounting duties of moderate complexity using a variety of software programs
- Performs various clerical, accounting and record keeping tasks.
- Prepares various reports, receives cash, processes payments and posts journal entries.
- Verifies the accuracy, completeness and consistency of accounting information.
- Prepares general correspondence, bills and vouchers.
- Maintains records of customer accounts and analyzes and prepares summary reports.
- Enters and retrieves data from the computer or other devices using various software systems.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic clerical, billing and record keeping procedures.
- Ability to use computers with a variety of software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel and Munis.
- Ability to review work of others
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
Minimum Training and Experience
- Graduation from high school or equivalent
- Two (2) years’ experience in basic accounting, record keeping, or administrative work. Associates Degree preferred.
- Experience with Outlook, Access, Excel and Munis a plus.
