POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists in the performance of various and numerous clerical duties in the Assessor’s Office’ Position has heavy contact with the public and must be available during times of year when critical deadlines must be met. Represented by the Guilford Employee Association (GEA).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RE   PONSIBILITIES:

• Processes mailings
• Processes Motor Vehicle Certificates of Corrections to an assessment for the Tax Collector
• Takes applications for tax reductions or exemptions .
• Explains assessment procedures to the public for real estate, motor vehicles, and personal property
• Assists in pricing unpriced motor vehicles and in pro-rating of motor vehicle accounts
• Helps prepare monthly bank reconciliation
• Responsible for recording and filing of Building Permits
• Responsible for preparing court case files
• Maintains department files.
• Answers the customers’ questions by telephone and in person with great frequency
• Assists the Assessor in preparing the Grand List for the computer
• Assist’s Assessor’s Aide with processing deed transfers
• Processes Personal Property Declarations
• Assists Tax Office during busy times with bulk tasks such as opening mail, answering phones and preparing mailings
• Performs other related duties as required

EDUCATION  AND/OR  EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); plus, three (3) years of business-related experience in dealing with the general public; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Must be able to complete Certified Connecticut Municipal Assessor (CCMA) courses I A and l B or Administrative Assessment Technician (AAT) designation module equivalents, within three (3) years of hire
• Knowledge of Real Estate and/or Assessor ‘s Office functions helpful
