History of Single Assessors – 2022

In this report, the Research/Historian Committee of the Connecticut Association of Assessing Officers has compiled a list of the single assessors who were appointed subsequent to the local board of assessors in all of the 169 municipalities. There is no attempt in this report to determine whether these single assessors were full or part-time. In a number of small municipalities you will notice that the same assessor served in multi-jurisdictions at the same time. These are jurisdictions that believe they do not require a full-time professional assessor, but hire them on a part-time basis. In Connecticut there are still a few communities that maintain the board of assessors structure. In those communities, the municipality usually hires a full or part-time certified professional to work in conjunction with the part-time board.

The information for this report was obtained from the following sources: State Register and Manual, Assessoreporter, CAAO Rosters, CAAO web-site and mailings to the 169 municipalities; personal contact with some assessors, newspaper articles, town and city directories, e-mails, requests for information through the Assessoreporter and the placement of the final report on the CAAO web-site for verification.
