Job Title: Assistant Assessor

Salary: $55,986 - $62,573

Hours: 35 Hour Work Week

This employee will assist the Assessor in the valuation of all real estate, personal property and motor vehicles and will assume delegated responsibilities in the absence of the Assessor.

Essential Functions:

Plans and organizes work according to standard office procedures.  Relieves Assessor of office detail work.  Processes title and assessment changes; veterans, disabled, elderly, and renters’ exemptions; motor vehicle tax credits and completion of sales ratio forms for goods and non-goods sales. Participates in identifying and valuing taxable property to establish the Grant List.  Assists Assessor in the inspection and valuation of real and personal property, as required.

Assists in researching and processing motor vehicle assessments.  Processes business, motor vehicle and personal property declarations, prepares for mailing and receives new declarations.  Prepares statistical and narrative reports to State and Federal governments to enable proper accounting and preparation for State auditing.  Analyzes methods of collecting and retaining assessment support data primarily through the CAMA.  Provides technical information and assistance to attorneys, bankers, and members of the public.  Performs related work, as required.

Qualifications Profile:

The skills and knowledge required would generally be acquired with a high school education and course work in Business Mathematics, Business English, plus three years’ experience in an Assessor’s Office; OR, an equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required.  Must be computer literate (Microsoft Office).

License or Certificate:

CCMA I OR currently in the process of obtaining certification and ability to successfully re-certify every 5 years.  Must be certified within four years of employment.  Valid CT Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

Salary: $55,986 – $62,573.
